Answers to the questions we get most. If yours isn't here, email us — a real person reads it.

There is no way to recover it, and we can't reset it for you. Zosia has no accounts and no servers to verify your identity against, so a real "forgot password" flow isn't possible.
That's the trade-off of the file being genuinely encrypted: nobody can open it without the password, including us. If you still have the app installed with your data in it, you can set a new password and export a fresh backup — the old file stays locked, but nothing is lost.
Keep the password somewhere you will still have access to if you lose the phone. A password manager, or written down somewhere safe.
Export My Data on the old phone, then Restore from Backup on the new one. That works between any two phones, including iPhone to Android and back.
Restore is free on every tier, so you can bring your data across before buying Pro again on the new platform.
On iPhone, if you have set a backup password, Zosia also checks your own iCloud Drive folder automatically the first time you open it on the new phone and offers to restore from there — so the file is often already waiting for you.
Some of them. The rule is: the picture OF a thing travels with your backup, the pile of pictures ABOUT it doesn't.
Profile photos are included — the single picture at the top of a family member, pet, plant or asset, plus your own. Documentation photos are not: the galleries of vet records, receipts, damage reports and serial plates.
That's deliberate. Those galleries have no limit, and bundling them would make a backup enormous, slow, and far more likely to fail on the one day you most need it to work. If you are switching phones and want them too, copy them across yourself first.
Yes. Everything lives only on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours for it to be sent to. We never see it.
If you use the export or automatic backup, the file goes to your own iCloud Drive or the Google Drive folder you connect — your account, never ours — and it is encrypted with a password only you know.
No. Pro is a one-time purchase. Pay once, keep it — there are no recurring charges, ever.
It is bought separately on iOS and Android, because Apple and Google don't share purchase records and Zosia has no account system to bridge them. That's the same thing that keeps your data private.
Recovery depends entirely on whether you have a backup. If you have an exported file and remember its password, you can restore everything onto any new device.
If you never exported, the fallback is whatever your phone's own iCloud or Google backup happened to sync before it was lost — which isn't something we control or can promise. Without either, the data can't be recovered, by you or by us.
This is why the export is worth doing once, today, rather than one day.
No. Zosia works completely offline. The only things that ever touch the network are the App Store or Google Play purchase itself, and the optional backup to your own cloud folder if you turn it on.
Almost all of it is already entirely in your hands. Everything Zosia stores — family, pets, plants, assets, tasks, notes, photos, all of it — lives on your device and nowhere else. Delete the app, or use Clear All Data in Settings, and it is gone permanently. We hold no copy, because there is no server of ours for a copy to sit on.
The single exception is your purchase. When you buy Zosia Pro, our payment provider (RevenueCat) keeps a record of that purchase so Pro can be restored if you reinstall or move to a new phone. It is tied to an anonymous ID — no name, no email, no account — and it is the only thing about you that exists off your device.
If you would like that purchase record deleted too, email vin@arvexsystems.app and we will have it removed. Do note that deleting it means Pro can no longer be restored on a new device without buying again, so it is worth being sure.
Any backup files you exported yourself live in your own iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or wherever you saved them. Those are yours to delete directly — we have never had access to them.
Tell us what happened and what you expected instead. If you can include your device and what version of Zosia you're on — it's at the bottom of Settings — that helps a lot.
